The NSS and the SCC Have Summoned Vahan Shirkhanyan Four Months After the Notable Letter

According to the newspaper "Zhaghovurd", recently the Special Investigative Service (SCC) and subsequently the National Security Service (NSS) have summoned former Deputy Minister of Defense Vahan Shirkhanyan.

As known, on March 20, former Deputy Minister of Defense Vahan Shirkhanyan wrote a lengthy open letter to the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan, which received significant attention, leading to investigations by the Prosecutor General's office as well.

In the preamble of that letter, Shirkhanyan described the book authored by the second president as a "collection of lies". "I want to refresh your memory with a few episodes," Shirkhanyan wrote, presenting his version of events from 1998-1999 in 23 points. Shirkhanyan accused Kocharyan of foreign policy failures, discussing the multi-billion financial damages suffered by the state, regarding which the investigation had not been completed due to the October 27 incident.

Regarding October 27, Shirkhanyan asserted that Robert Kocharyan deliberately delayed the meeting with the terrorists so that “if anyone were wounded, there would be no chance of rescue.”

And now, according to "Zhaghovurd", months after the publication of the letter, Vahan Shirkhanyan has been summoned simultaneously by two law enforcement agencies. According to our information, the law enforcement authorities specifically asked Shirkhanyan for justifications regarding the points in his letter, and he provided them, explaining which information could be taken from which agency's archives.

Yesterday, "Zhaghovurd" attempted to clarify this information with Vahan Shirkhanyan. In our conversation, he confirmed that he had been summoned by both agencies but did not wish to share further details.
