Urfa's Armenian Church is Crumbling

The Armenian Church of the Holy Mother of God, located in the village of Germush in the Haliliye district of Urfa, is deteriorating over time. This information was reported by the news outlet ‘Urfa News’.

The church was built in the 19th century, with the last restoration works carried out in 1881 by Hakob Ardvissian.

According to historical accounts, in 1895, around 3,000 Armenians, mostly women and children, sought refuge in the Holy Mother of God Cathedral. On December 29, Turkish forces gathered in front of the church, broke down its door, stormed inside, poured oil in the cathedral, and set ablaze the inhabitants who had taken shelter there.
