Transgender Person Surprises Lawyer in Yerevan

The director of a legal consulting organization called ArmDaily.am, requesting to publish their account as an interesting summer story, recounted an unusual incident. Due to their request, we are not revealing the name of the organization.

The event unfolded when a young man called a law firm to inquire whether they provided services related to immigration. After receiving a positive response, he confirmed the date, time, and cost of the consultation.

On the scheduled day, a woman arrived at the firm, stating she had pre-registered for immigration consultation. She approached the lawyer and began narrating a long, sorrowful story about how unhappy her life had been, expressing how rejected and unloved she felt since childhood, even mentioning that almost all her relatives had molested her, becoming emotional and crying during her account.

The lawyer attempted to interject, explaining that he was not a psychologist and could not provide professional assistance. However, the woman continued her tale and handed the lawyer her passport, which bore a male name.

Surprised, the lawyer was quickly informed that the person in the passport was indeed her, and she was seeking assistance with immigration matters. 'I want you to help me leave the country based on my story and advise me on which European country is currently the most welcoming for migrants. I will go to that country, and later, wherever my heart desires, I will undergo surgery,' she expressed.

The lawyer, at a loss for words, could only stammer that he had no experience in handling such matters, to which the young man in women's clothing responded, 'Then why were you just staring at me? Did I come here to amuse you?'

After the incident, the director of the law firm tried to investigate whether this type of immigration—based on gender identity—is common. They found out from partner offices that for about a year, people have been seeking to settle in Europe in this manner, with Canada being the most sought-after destination.
