For Car Importers, Neither the Government Nor the Parliament Can Extend Deadlines: Babken Tunyan

Babken Tunyan, the chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Economic Issues, wrote on his Facebook page: "Dear friends,

As you know, starting from January 1, 2020, there will be changes in the calculation of customs duties for automobile vehicles imported into the territory of the Republic of Armenia, in accordance with EAEU regulations.

This means that customs clearance for vehicles imported from third countries will become more expensive. Therefore, to avoid potential issues and considering that the process of purchasing a car abroad and transporting it to Armenia takes about 1.5-2.5 months, it would be better to organize your transactions so that the cars reach Armenia and are cleared by December 31.

According to EAEU rules, the legislation in effect at the time of actual declaration will be applied, regardless of the date of acquisition. Let me stress that neither the government nor the parliament can extend the deadlines, as this is determined within the framework of the EAEU. The State Revenue Committee will soon provide additional and more detailed information.”
