Tbilisi Implements 5-Year Waste Sorting Plan
The Tbilisi City Council, or Sakrebulo, has approved a five-year program for the implementation of a new efficient waste management system. The plan outlines specific measures for transitioning to the new system:
- Promoting waste reduction
- Creating a regular system for waste collection and transportation
- A gradual transition to waste sorting
- Regulating the movement of waste collection trucks
- Providing additional containers
- Enhancing pollution control measures
The document also addresses measures aimed at raising public awareness. To this end, stands will be set up in various parts of the city, along with containers for waste sorting.
Alongside the five-year plan, the city municipality is starting to work on a long-term strategy. The model for waste management, aligned with modern and international standards, is expected to be fully implemented over a period of 15 years.
The five-year waste management plan has been developed by the Tbilisi City Hall with the participation of international experts, as part of USAID's “Waste Management Technologies in Regions” program.
