Family of Fallen Soldier Has Not Received 5 Million Drams; Ministry of Defense Clarifies

The family of Satenik Sargsyan, who has been on the housing improvement waiting list for families of fallen servicemen since 2010, has not received any support and has been removed from the queue. The family has approached the Armenian Military Prosecutor's Office seeking clarification, reports Armtimes.com.

Previously, the family was informed by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) that their case had been studied upon the directive of the Minister of Defense. As a result, it was stated that in 2013, a decision was made by the commission established to improve housing conditions for families of fallen and disabled servicemen, awarding financial assistance of 4 million 920 thousand drams for Satenik Sargsyan's family to purchase a one-bedroom apartment.

Following an article by Haykakan Jamakavtan, the MoD responded to the issue and informed Satenik Sargsyan's family that a mistake had occurred in their previous letters.

One of Satenik Sargsyan's sons, Pargev Karapetyan, was killed in 2009 while on military duty, and another son, Aharon Karapetyan, is a disabled serviceman who lost his right foot in an explosion during his service in 2006. The family members have repeatedly approached both the Yerevan municipality and the Ministry of Defense over the years but have received no support for housing.

Today, the MoD stated that based on the results of studies and the letters from the Yerevan municipality dated December 21, 2017, Satenik Sargsyan's family is not included in the list of beneficiaries presented to the Ministry of Defense. The MoD clarified that the family of the fallen Pargev Karapetyan cannot be considered a beneficiary of the housing support program for former servicemen with disability rights and families of fallen soldiers.

Satenik Sargsyan’s other son, disabled serviceman Aharon Karapetyan, is also not registered in the list of those in need of housing sent by local self-government bodies to the MoD.

In an interview with the media, Satenik Sargsyan stated that the Yerevan municipality has delayed the process of including her other son Aharon in the waiting list for various reasons for years. Initially, Citizen Sargsyan submitted all the necessary documents for the corresponding package, and today, when they went to collect that package, it turned out that there were almost no documents in it.

“We demanded a copy of the package that contained all the documents, but we were only sent the application and a copy of the passport. The information about the registered individuals in the package was missing, and when I said that we personally saw that information with Vahan Khachatryan, they told us he showed it to us, so we should ask him for it,” she said.
