Securities in Stepanavan being Investigated by NSS Regarding Poisoned Fish

According to the "Fact" newspaper, the National Security Service (NSS) is conducting serious checks and increased supervision in the area of Stepanavan following the discovery of a large number of dead fish a few days ago, aiming to control the situation and identify the causes.

"During these days, quite strict monitoring work is being conducted along the river to exclude any cases of fish poaching. According to reports circulating in the area, there are also individuals who have been detained," the newspaper reports.

It is noteworthy that on July 17, local residents discovered a large number of dead fish in the Chknagh River flowing through Stepanavan in the Lori province. They believe that the cause is wastewater leaking from the gold mine operating in the village of Armanis, which flows into the Dzoraget River and then into its tributary, the Chknagh River.

Anush Harutyunyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the State Health Agency, informed Sputnik Armenia that a regional inspector had visited the site, collected samples from the found fish, and submitted them for laboratory examination. According to her, the results of the laboratory examination will be known in a few days.
