Opium and Methamphetamine Found in Possession of Citizens of Iran and Armenia, says State Revenue Committee

The fight against the illegal transportation of drugs and psychotropic substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia continues, as stated by the State Revenue Committee's anti-smuggling department.

During a monitoring operation at the "Agarak" state border checkpoint, a citizen of Armenia, identified as S.P., arriving from Iran, was found in possession of a black substance resembling opium, weighing 338 grams. This mass was secured to S.P.'s legs with self-adhesive tape.

In another case, a further inspection of a truck operated by an Iranian citizen, A.A., arriving from Iran revealed 1.68 grams of a white, crystalline substance resembling methamphetamine, which was discovered under the carpet of the passenger seat.

Materials related to these incidents have been handed over to the investigative department. Criminal cases have been initiated under Article 267.1, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. Both the Armenian citizen S.P. and the Iranian citizen A.A. have been detained.

Note: A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law by a legally binding court judgment.
