67,000 Vehicles Imported in 2018; 70,000 Expected by Month's End – State Customs Committee

The Deputy Chairwoman of the State Revenue Committee, Shushan Nersisyan, has published figures regarding the latest data on vehicle imports and customs clearance on her Facebook page.

We present the full post below:

"I want to share some figures and inform the public about the work that has already been carried out and will be undertaken. In 2018, approximately 67,000 vehicles were imported. By the end of this month, that figure will have exceeded and we will have about 70,000 clearances. These large-scale imports are due to the transition to the unified customs tariff of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) starting in 2020.

Work Done: Anticipating the increase in imports, we established a six-day work week for departments located in Noragavit starting January 2019, as well as increasing the number of customs clearance inspectors by five. Concurrently, we began actively clearing vehicles across all customs offices in the republic and also unloading vehicles in customs warehouses.

Currently, about 700 vehicles are being cleared daily in Armenia, of which approximately 500 are in Noragavit.

Anticipated Changes: From August 1, the departments in Noragavit will operate on a seven-day schedule, and an additional six staff members will be added. Unloading operations at customs warehouses will also occur on Saturdays and Sundays. The "Metexim" customs warehouse has been equipped, and vehicles will be cleared in this facility within a very short timeframe.

I want to emphasize that a comprehensive solution is highly important for the Prime Minister's directive to relocate the car customs office to Gyumri, where all necessary conditions will be ensured and the corresponding infrastructure will be created for the quick and easy customs clearance and registration of vehicles. Extensive work in connection with this directive has already begun and, as the Prime Minister stated, the car customs office will be relocated to Gyumri by the end of the year."
