Large Number of Dead Fish Discovered in the Charming River of Stepankavan
While some individuals have recently raised artificial noise about the dangers of swimming in Lake Sanaa, a real threat has emerged in the administrative area of Stepankavan in the Lori region. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, residents of Stepankavan have discovered a large number of dead fish in the Charming River that flows through the city for several days now.
In an interview with the photojournalist, locals stated that the reason for the fish deaths is the operation of a gold mine in the administrative area of the village of Armanis, as the waste water from there is being discharged into the river, causing significant harm. "The factory is not fully operational, yet it has already become a menace to this beautiful region of Lori. Not to mention that the factory has deceived both the local population and the Stepankavan municipality for years," they noted.
They further explained that the chemical liquid discharged from the factory flows into the Dzoraget River and from there moves towards the Charming River. "At least the responsible bodies should take measures and address this issue, otherwise, this beautiful nature will be destroyed. Where are our environmentalists and officials from the Ministry of Environment? We hope that after this publication, the situation will change and steps will be taken against the devastation caused by the Armanis gold mine," they expressed.
The photojournalist reports that the relevant authorities, including the Stepankavan police department, have already been informed about the incident, and materials are being prepared regarding the fact.
