U.S. Congress Prohibits Sale of Weapons to Azerbaijan That Threaten Civilian Aircraft in Artsakh
The U.S. House of Representatives has approved a legislative initiative put forth by Congressman Brad Sherman, which prohibits the provision of military resources to Azerbaijan that could be used by Baku to target civilian aircraft departing from the airport in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to reports from "Voice of America," the initiative was supported by 234 congress members, while 195 voted against it.
Supporters of the initiative include Congress members Frank Pallone, Jackie Speier, and Adam Schiff. The amendment pertains to the Fiscal Year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. Armenian-American organizations have welcomed the passage of this legislative change.
