152 dead, 2516 injured. Statistics of accidents in 2019
“Regardless of the brand of the vehicle and the type of fuel used, if we do not follow the rules of road traffic, accidents will be inevitable,” said Arman Karapetyan, Deputy Head of the Road Transport Policy Department of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, during a discussion on the topic "Public Transport Explosion, Human Casualties: Who are the culprits and responsible for the tragic traffic accident?"
Vrej Gabrielyan, Deputy Director of the Emergency Situations Rescue Service and Major General, presented statistical data indicating that from 2015 to 2018, there were 10,737 road traffic accidents in Armenia, resulting in 1,234 deaths and 20,319 injuries among citizens. According to Gabrielyan, this is a huge number for a country as small as Armenia.
In the first half of 2018, there were 1,711 registered traffic accidents, while in the first half of 2019, the number rose to 2,108. Consequently, 139 citizens lost their lives in 2018, while 152 did in 2019; injuries amounted to 2,516 in 2018 and 2,996 in 2019.
