Criminal Case Initiated After Activist Detained for Fundraising for Amulsar Guardians
Anna Shahnazaryan, a member of the "Armenian Environmental Front" and an activist organizing fundraising for the Amulsar guardians, has been released after being detained by the police yesterday. She announced this through a live broadcast on Facebook.
“We had organized a fundraising event, and when we were approached and asked about it, I explained the situation. Then they demanded some documents proving that the city hall had authorized the fundraising. I told them I did not have such documents and requested an explanation for why they needed this from me. Following that, they put me in a vehicle and took me to the Central Police Department, where I spent about three hours refusing to provide explanations. Later, they informed me that there was a suspicion of fraud and that there were issues related to the fundraising activities,” she stated, adding that her friends continued the fundraising near the police station.
According to Anna Shahnazaryan, a criminal case has been initiated under the fraud article. The police confiscated the fundraising box and the 23,000 AMD that had been collected. They did not provide her with a copy of the report.
