Teghut Employees Left Unemployed
Armen Mkrtchyan, a member of the 'My Step' faction in the National Assembly, writes on his Facebook page: “Dear Alaverdi residents, I returned late last night from Brussels. I am aware of the recent developments (220 employees of the copper-smelting plant have become unemployed). Just moments ago, I had a phone conversation with Norayr Petrosyan. We have agreed that in the first phase, 50 employees will be employed at Teghut LLC. The company's human resources department will select the employees. As I have stated since the moment of the mine’s reoperation, I will not mediate for anyone. I ask everyone to consider this. The possibility of increasing this number and the issue of the aforementioned 50 citizens’ employment will enter a practical phase when Petrosyan is in Armenia in the coming days, and I will meet with him. I will personally pass him the list of the citizens who have become unemployed.
Moreover, I just spoke with the Central Bank Governor Artur Javadyan. I remind you that I provided him with data regarding 346 reschedulings (freezing, interest rate reductions, extension of the term or other options) for 152 borrowers in more than 10 banks and credit organizations a month ago. Javadyan stated that the CBA has established contact with all banks and credit organizations. I will have more accurate information on this matter on Monday when Mr. Javadyan is in Armenia. We have also agreed to prioritize the unemployed citizens so that they receive calls from the banks in the coming days.
I have also spoken with Deputy Prime Minister Avinyan. We will meet soon to discuss the future of the smelter. I will try to be in Alaverdi as soon as possible. Stay strong.”
