Planned Uprising: The Evaluation of the Protests in Tbilisi by the Georgian Prosecutor's Office

The Georgian Prosecutor's Office has stated that the protests that took place in the capital, Tbilisi, on the night of June 20th to 21st were not spontaneous outrage among local residents, but rather a planned uprising aimed at seizing power.

This is mentioned on the official website of the agency. "At this stage, based on additional actions, obtained criminal signals, and dozens of testimonies, the investigative body has concluded that on the night of June 20th to 21st, certain individuals planned to violently overthrow state power through riots and seize it," states the Prosecutor's Office announcement.

The attempt to storm the parliamentary building was only part of the rioters' plan, with the next phase intended to destabilize the situation in the regions.

Recall that mass protests by Georgians began on June 20th due to the speech of Russian State Duma deputy Sergey Gavrilov, who had been present at the inter-parliamentary assembly of Orthodoxy held in Georgia. After the start of the session, he took a seat in the chair of the parliament speaker and addressed those gathered in Russian.

On the night of June 20th, demonstrators attempted to storm the parliament building, after which rubber bullets and tear gas were used against them, resulting in 240 injuries. Following the clashes, 305 individuals were detained.
