New Locum Tenens of the Patriarchate of Constantinople Appointed
The result of the election for the locum tenens of the Patriarchate of Constantinople is now known. SHANTNEWS reports from Istanbul that Sahak Bishop Mashalyan has been elected as the new locum tenens.
It is noteworthy that two bishops from the Brotherhood of Constantinople were nominated for the position of locum tenens: Archbishop Aram Ateshyan and Bishop Sahak Mashalyan. The role of the locum tenens is crucial at this stage, as the newly elected locum tenens will be responsible for organizing the election of the new patriarch of Constantinople.
Let us recall that the former patriarch of Constantinople, Mesrop Mutafyan, had been unable to perform his duties due to health issues, resulting in a vacancy lasting over ten years.
