Satellite Images Show 'Blooming' Lake Sevan
Ecolur.org has published new images of Lake Sevan that depict it as 'blooming'. These are satellite images that showcase the condition of the lake as of July 1 this year.
'Lake Sevan has experienced massive blooming this year. The former Deputy Minister of the Environment, Aizir Ghazaryan, has released satellite images that reveal both the Large Sevan and Small Sevan in a green hue. Environmentalists are once again raising alarms, noting that the lake's condition is a result of additional water discharges carried out in previous years and the lowering of the water level,' the post states.
It was also reminded that Lake Sevan bloomed last year as well. According to Bardukh Gabrielian, the director of the Hydrology and Zoology Center of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, the drop in water levels increases the concentration of organic materials in the lake, which in turn contributes to the blooming of the lake.
As of July 2, the water level of Lake Sevan was recorded at 1900.81 meters. On the same day last year, the water level was at 1900.82 meters.
