Avinyan to Meet with Employees of Alaverdi Copper Smelting Plant
The Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Avinyan, will meet with the employees of the Alaverdi Copper Smelting Plant on July 8. This was reported today, July 2, by former employee Armen Kirakosyan to NEWS.am.
He stated that they met with the Governor of Lori Province, Andrey Ghukasian, yesterday. The governor informed them that the Deputy Prime Minister will come and there will be a discussion with the employees. 'We expect some clarifications and concrete solutions to be offered to us,' he noted.
NEWS.am also attempted to speak with Lusine Mejlumyan, the director of the company operating the Alaverdi Copper Smelting Plant, 'A-C-P' LLC, but the employee said that the director will soon make a statement.
It is worth noting that employees of the Alaverdi Copper Smelting Plant had blocked the Yerevan-Tbilisi railway and the plant's entrances and exits since early yesterday morning. 200 employees have been laid off, and they are demanding a meeting with government officials to either extend their contracts or provide them with alternative solutions.
