Official Pages Covering the Activities of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs Removed from the Internet, Gabriel Ghazaryan Describes the Act as a Cheap Attempt at Self-Assertion

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Gabriel Ghazaryan has announced on his Facebook page that the official pages documenting the ministry’s activities have been removed from the internet. He reflects on the consequences of this decision by highlighting a fear of the past that sometimes overshadows the aspirations for future dreams.

Ghazaryan’s post is presented below:

“It is with sadness that I inform you that the official pages covering the activities of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs have been removed from the internet. During the ministry's tenure, significant historical events took place, such as hosting global legends of sports, important meetings, and the signing of various agreements. The tangible proof of these accomplishments has been irresponsibly deleted today. The entire history of a period in sports, the facts, and the archive of photographs have been erased.

This was history, as my style of operation as a minister was devoid of self-promotion and empty rhetoric about the future. Only the significant strides and results of work accomplished were documented on the page for years, without personal advertising or promises, making each post historical and meaningful.

This act is a manifestation of immorality towards the state, a deliberate devaluation of national heritage, and a cheap attempt at self-assertion. You wish to destroy what you should actually aim to at least approach or, at best, continue. However, perhaps the unattainability of this ideal has prompted such a childish act, aiming to cover the lack of professional knowledge and complete ignorance of the field.

Sports is a key area through which we present ourselves to the world, through which we are recognized and respected, and through which we are strong both physically and morally. Our athletes compel even our enemies to respect the Armenian tricolor and anthem. In such moments, we take pride as a nation, and only we, as representatives of the sports world, understand the true value of those moments.

I regret that after years of hard work, efforts, sacrifices, overcoming difficulties, and achieving incredible successes, I am leaving the future of the sector in absolute uncertainty.”
