Soldier Inflicts Fatal Gunshot Wound to Himself in Facial Area

On June 26, 2019, around 13:30, a conscript soldier from military unit N, Private Haik Sureni Alaverdyan, inflicted a fatal gunshot wound to himself in the facial area using the AK-74 rifle assigned to him.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia reports that a criminal case has been initiated in the fourth garrison investigative department under the first part of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and an investigation is underway.

It is noted that the first part of Article 110 of the Criminal Code of Armenia stipulates that a person may be brought to suicide or attempted suicide through threats, cruel treatment, or regularly degrading their personal dignity, either intentionally or negligently. The penalty for this offense is imprisonment for a maximum period of three years.
