Residents Blamed for the Condition of Yerevan's Rivers: Channels Must Be Closed, Says Kamo Areyan
If we do not clean the rivers and drains of Yerevan, we will face a situation worse than we currently have. This was stated today, June 26, at a Yerevan City Council meeting by Kamo Areyan, an advisor to the Mayor of Yerevan.
He added that the polluted state of the rivers is caused by the residents: “The pollution of the Hrazdan River begins from Lake Sevan and ends at the river mouth. Everyone throws garbage into the Hrazdan River. Only 3.1 km of the main channels are covered; the rest are open. The River Ar is now a dumping ground for household waste. The channels need to be closed. Keeping them open is dangerous and unacceptable. But since this is not possible at the moment, we are left with tightening enforcement, informing residents that they can be fined for littering,” emphasized Areyan.
