Relative of Samvel Adyan, who held high positions in the State Oversight Service, targets of law enforcement

Armen Adyan, the nephew of Samvel Adyan who previously held high positions in the State Oversight Service, has come under the scrutiny of law enforcement agencies.

According to preliminary information, while serving as the director of Yerevan's Vocational School No. 4, Armen Adyan has allegedly embezzled funds.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia has informed News.am that a criminal case has been initiated regarding Adyan’s suspected embezzlement under Article 179, Part 3, Clause 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which pertains to large-scale embezzlement.

According to Hraparak.am sources, Armen Adyan has embezzled scholarships meant for 18 students and opened positions under the names of 7 acquaintances and relatives, subsequently misappropriating their salaries.

During the days when the criminal case was initiated, Adyan was in the United States but returned to Armenia upon learning about the case.

It is noted that on February 27, 2019, Samvel Adyan, the Acting Head of the Procurement Control Department of the State Oversight Service, and Gevorg Khachatryan, an employee of this department, were charged under Part 2 of Article 308 (abuse of official powers resulting in serious consequences) and Part 2 of Article 325 (forgery of documents by a group of individuals based on prior agreement) of the Armenian Criminal Code.

Samvel Adyan's official powers have been temporarily suspended.
