BHK Will Vote Against the Tax Code Amendment Due to Flat Taxation Point - Abovyan

The National Assembly resumed its discussion today on the tax code amendment that was left unfinished yesterday. The first speaker was BHK MP Arman Abovyan. He stated that his faction will vote against the bill.

Abovyan explained that despite their claims, the new draft preserves the provisions regarding flat income tax rates. This means that while currently higher earners pay taxes at a higher rate, after the adoption of the bill, everyone will pay the same amount.

The MP stated that this is a social issue for them, as both high and low earners will have to pay the same 23 percent income tax. He was answered by ruling faction member Gevorg Papoyan, who noted that non-flat taxation would not address social justice either. Fellow faction member Artak Manukyan echoed this sentiment, mentioning that it is dangerous to pit social classes against each other, as agriculture, for example, is not taxed at all, but that does not mean others subsidize agriculture.
