Criminal Prosecution Against Seyran Ohanyan Should Be Terminated: Defense Attorney

In connection with the case of March 1, the criminal prosecution against the Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, who is accused of violently overthrowing the constitutional order, should be terminated. This was stated today by Seyran Ohanyan's defense attorney Karen Mejlumyan in the Appeals Court.

He presented his objections regarding the complaints from the prosecution and the victim's side. Mejlumyan demanded that the Appeals Court reject the complaints regarding the case of Robert Kocharyan and others.

“If the complaints are not rejected and a new judicial act is adopted, I believe that the Appeals Court should decide to terminate the criminal proceedings under Article 300.1 and to terminate the prosecution against my client Seyran Ohanyan,” he stated.

The lawyer also addressed the issue of the constitutionality of the charges brought against his client under Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code in detail. It is noted that on May 20, the presiding judge of the first instance court, David Grigoryan, decided to suspend the proceedings of the case concerning Robert Kocharyan, Yuri Khachaturov, Seyran Ohanyan, and Armen Gevorgyan, and to send it to the Constitutional Court to clarify the compliance of the applicable part of Article 300.1 of the RA Criminal Code and the related provisions of Article 300 of the RA Criminal Code with the requirements of the RA Constitution.
