Court Upholds Decision to Detain Mihran Poghosyan

The Armenian Court of Appeals, presided over by judge Narine Hovakimyan, has rejected the appeal of former MP and General Mihran Poghosyan's attorney. Consequently, the court has upheld the decision of the first instance court to detain Poghosyan.

This information was reported by Armtimes.com. Prior to this ruling, the Appeals Court examined the defense attorney's arguments and heard the objections presented regarding the case.

Mihran Poghosyan has been implicated as a defendant in the offshore case under Article 179, part 3, clause 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code (embezzlement in particularly large amounts) and Article 308, part 2 (abuse of official powers, resulting in grave consequences due to negligence).

A petition for his detention was submitted to the court on April 13 and was granted on April 15. Poghosyan was located and arrested in the Russian Federation and subsequently detained. His pre-trial detention measure was changed to house arrest on May 28, and he is currently under home confinement. According to the prosecution, the process for his extradition is ongoing.
