The Special Investigative Service Will Be Closed, A New Body Will Be Established
According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," the law enforcement system continues to discuss possible options for the dissolution of the Special Investigative Service (SIS) of the Republic of Armenia. "Zhoghovurd" learned that the SIS will be reorganized, and all bodies dealing with corruption issues will be closed down, including departments, and they will be consolidated into a single entity, which will become the future SIS. This means that the current SIS will be closed, and only the National Security Service will have an investigative division dealing with corruption issues.
There are also rumors circulating in the law enforcement system that it is not excluded that after the aforementioned body is established, the current head of the SIS, Sasun Khachatryan, might resign from his position and not become the head of the new body.
The dissolution of the SIS and the creation of a new body are significant as the SIS was established in our country within the framework of certain European obligations, having three crucial functions. Moreover, it remains unclear how corruption cases will be classified for investigation in the new body.
