I have achieved success in the private sector at a younger age, says newly appointed minister
The newly appointed Minister of Justice, Rustam Badasyan, considers his work experience in the field of justice satisfactory. As reported by Armenpress, during a briefing with reporters in the National Assembly, Badasyan noted that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already outlined the directions for reforms in the judicial system.
In Badasyan's opinion, his age-related characteristics will not affect the effectiveness of managing the ministry. “I have also had successes in the private sector at a younger age; in particular, I was a partner at one of the leading law firms just one year after starting my activity. Therefore, I believe my work experience is sufficient to lead the Ministry of Justice, because in the private sector, I am familiar with both the courts and the issues of the public sector,” Badasyan said.
When asked about his view on the protests blocking access to the courts, Badasyan stated that the Prime Minister has clearly explained the purpose behind the action. “I don’t believe this was a tool to exert pressure on the courts,” he added.
In response to the question of whether vetting was the only way to reform the judicial system and if there are other tools to achieve it, the newly appointed minister replied, “For having an independent judicial system, this is a necessary but not a sufficient condition.”
