We have a firm stance on foreign interference in our internal affairs: A. Mirzoyan on the invitation of the Russian Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
We have a firm stance regarding the theoretical possibility of interference in our country's internal affairs by all nations. This statement was made by the President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a conversation with journalists today at the National Assembly, in relation to the invitation of the Russian Ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also mentioned that he does not possess further details about that meeting.
It should be noted that, according to press reports, the Russian Ambassador had a meeting with the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian.
“In the past, there have not seemed to be such conversations. I have also had numerous meetings with the Russian Ambassador, discussing many issues, including the importance of respecting mutual sovereignty,” he continued.
In response to the remark that these meetings have seemingly not yielded results, Ararat Mirzoyan replied that he does not agree with that viewpoint. He added that he personally welcomes the invitation made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but urged against drawing far-reaching conclusions.
“This is not about whether any country's ambassador should meet with a representative of Armenia’s political spectrum; not at all. Everyone can meet with everyone. The issue concerns a person who has been charged with very serious accusations. There is an ongoing judicial process in which any such meeting or suggestion could be seen as interference. We are not speaking about a classic politician, but someone somewhat different than a classic political figure, because there are very serious charges involved,” concluded Ararat Mirzoyan.
