Citizen Reports to Police That Ijevan Mayor Illegally Enters Private Property and Assaults Woman

According to SHAMSHYAN.com, an investigation is underway at the Ijevan police department regarding an incident that occurred yesterday, June 15, in the Tavush region. Photoreporter Gagik Shamshyan reports that at around 09:15, a call was received at the operational management center of the Yerevan police department from citizen Valeri Melikbekyan, who informed that the Mayor of Ijevan, Vardan Ghalumyan, accompanied by municipal employees, including those from the utility department, was committing illegal actions on his property located at 13/41 Independence Street and had assaulted family members.

Police operatives from the Ijevan division, led by an investigator from the investigative department, arrived at the scene. At the police station, Valeri Melikbekyan's wife, 51-year-old Nairine Melikbekyan, a resident of Ijevan, reported that on the same day, during a protest against construction workers on their family-owned plot of land, Ijevan Mayor Vardan Ghalumyan had struck her in the back several times, causing her physical pain. A forensic medical examination has been ordered by the investigator, and the circumstances are being clarified.

As previously reported by SHAMSHYAN.com, on May 23, Valeri Melikbekyan, a 56-year-old member of the Ijevan City Council, appealed to the website asking for the attention of the government and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to put an end to the misuse of official power by Mayor Vardan Ghalumyan.
