Police Official to Appeal to Court to Defend His Rights

The Deputy Head of the 6th Division of the Armenian Police, Mihran Davtyan, who is also the head of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, has denied allegations regarding his alleged meetings with various businesspeople and involvement in corrupt deals. In an interview with Irakanum.am, Davtyan addressed the article published in the Zhamanak newspaper, which claimed he sought money from entrepreneurs and construction workers.

“This does not correspond to reality; there have been no meetings with any businesspeople. I am sincerely surprised that I am attributed such phenomena, which are not only unsubstantiated but also far from the truth. The article mentions some folders that I supposedly use against various businesspeople; I want to assure you that this is false information,” he stated.

Mihran Davtyan also emphasized that the police do not protect anyone. It is noted that according to the publication, Davtyan was a protégé of Serge’s Vacho in old Armenia.

When we asked about the article's claim that he owns several businesses, not only in Armenia but also abroad, Davtyan reiterated that this was also false information. “My declaration is open, where my income is clearly stated; there can be no talk of illegal enrichment. This is the first time I’m hearing that I have a factory. I am completely unaware of who owns it; I only know that ‘Ar Delikates’ LLC is a sausage production company,” said Davtyan.

We inquired whether he aspires to become the police chief, as mentioned in the article. Davtyan replied that he is focused on performing his current duties. “I have been working in this field since the 1990s, and I see myself right here. At one point, I worked at the State Revenue Committee and then returned to the police system. The results of the division's work are determined by the leadership,” he explained.

Mihran Davtyan mentioned that he does not rule out that the article containing inaccurate information could be a result of their daily impartial work. “We are fighting against corruption and economic crime. The revelations made by our division's employees annoy many. If there is at least one substantiated statement in that article, I am ready for all kinds of punishments,” he stated.

In conclusion, Mihran Davtyan noted that a service investigation has been initiated by Police Chief Valery Osipyan, and after its completion, he intends to appeal to the court to protect his rights.
