Suspect in the Murder of the Father of March 1 Victim, Sargis Avagyan, Found

As part of the ongoing criminal investigation by the SIS of the Investigative Committee of Armenia in the Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts, a male suspect, born in 1989, has been identified in connection with the murder of Sargis Avagyan.

It has been previously reported that on June 10, 2019, a dispute occurred at the intersection of Glinka and Tigran the Great streets in Yerevan involving taxi driver Sargis Avagyan and two local residents born in 1963 and 1989. During the altercation, S. Avagyan sustained life-threatening injuries, and another individual, born in 1995, who attempted to intervene, also sustained serious injuries.

Following extensive investigative actions and urgent operational measures undertaken with the police department, several details surrounding the incident have been established, including the identities of the alleged perpetrators. Initially, it is believed that on the day of the incident, the suspects entered the taxi operated by Sargis Avagyan as passengers, engaged in a dispute with him inside the vehicle, and then exited the car to continue the altercation on the sidewalk to resolve personal issues.

This dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the individuals exchanged blows. During the scuffle, the male suspect born in 1989, armed with a sharp cutting object, intentionally struck S. Avagyan in the chest, causing fatal injuries categorized as a 'stab wound to the right side of the chest with penetration to the thoracic cavity, resulting in damage to the right atrium of the heart.'

Subsequently, the same individual inflicted additional injuries on the abdomen of the 1995-born victim, causing medium severity injuries described as 'two non-penetrating cut wounds to the anterior abdominal wall' and fled the scene.

Based on sufficient evidence, a decision was made to charge the 1989-born male under Article 104, Part 2, Section 10 and Article 113, Part 2, Section 6 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. A restraint measure has been chosen, and a wanted notice has been issued.

The pre-trial investigation continues. Notice: The suspect or accused in the alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty under the established procedure of the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
