Another Resignation in the Supreme Judicial Council

Armen Bekhtashyan, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, has submitted his resignation. This was reported by the press service of the Supreme Judicial Council. Bekhtashyan's resignation will be discussed at the next council meeting.

It is noteworthy that Bekhtashyan is one of the judicial members of the council. Currently, there are four members left in the council from the judges' composition—Liparit Melikjanyan, Sergey Chichoyan, Ani Mkhitaryan, and from the legal-scientific composition only Hayk Hovhannisyan.

The Supreme Judicial Council is composed of ten members, five of whom are legal scholars and five judges. The issue of vacant judges' positions in the council must be resolved by the general assembly of judges, selecting judges with at least ten years of experience, while the Legal-Scientific members of the council must be elected by the National Assembly from legal scholars and other reputable lawyers.

It should be noted that Sergey Meghryan, another member of the legal-scientific composition, submitted his resignation today, and just the day before, Armen Khachatryan, another member of the Supreme Judicial Council, also resigned. Earlier, on May 24, the council's president, Gagik Harutyunyan, resigned, followed by the temporary acting president Gevorg Danielyan two weeks later. Additionally, on October 27, 2018, the powers of council member Rouzanna Hakobyan were terminated.

Currently, the duties of the president of the Supreme Judicial Council are being temporarily performed by council member Sergey Chichoyan.
