Search Issued for Suspect in Arthur Avagyan's Father's Murder Case
The Investigation Committee of the Republic of Armenia is actively pursuing investigative and operational search measures in connection with the murder and stabbing that occurred on June 10, 2019, at the intersection of Glinka and Tigran the Great streets in Yerevan. A search has been issued for one individual.
On June 10, 2019, a dispute arose between taxi driver Sargis Avagyan, a resident of Yerevan, and two other residents born in 1963 and 1989. During the altercation, S. Avagyan sustained life-threatening injuries, while another individual, born in 1995, who intervened, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Through extensive investigative operations and immediate measures undertaken in cooperation with relevant police units, several circumstances of the incident have been clarified, including the identities of the alleged perpetrators. Specifically, preliminary data indicates that on the day of the incident, the suspects boarded the taxi operated by Sargis Avagyan. During their ride, a dispute broke out inside the vehicle, leading to them exiting the car to settle personal disputes. The altercation escalated on the sidewalk, transforming into a physical confrontation in which they exchanged blows.
During the fight, a young man born in 1989 attacked S. Avagyan with a sharp cutting object, intentionally inflicting a severe injury to his chest that was incompatible with life, characterized as a "penetrating stab wound to the right half of the chest, with injury to the right atrium of the heart." He also inflicted serious injuries on the abdomen of the 1995-born individual who had interfered in the altercation, causing "two non-penetrating stab wounds to the anterior abdominal wall," resulting in moderate injuries before fleeing the scene.
Based on sufficient evidence, a decision has been made to charge the 1989-born man under Article 104, Part 2, Item 10 and Article 113, Part 2, Item 6 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. He has been declared wanted, and pre-trial detention has been selected as a preventive measure. Authorities have been instructed to take necessary steps to locate the fugitive and present him to the prosecutorial body.
The investigation continues.
