Armenian Teen Drowns in Volga While Attempting to Save Friends

According to armtimes.com, an unfortunate incident occurred at the Krasnoglinski beach on the banks of the Volga River in Samara, Russia, where Armenian teens were relaxing with friends and relatives. A 17-year-old schoolboy named Tigran drowned while attempting to rescue his friend’s cousin, who was struggling in the water.

Tigran managed to bring the child to safety, while his friend Alexander assisted him to the shore. However, shortly thereafter, Tigran himself began to drown. Present at the beach were Tigran, Alexander, and Ashot, who are all classmates, along with Tigran's 14-year-old cousin and a friend’s cousin.

The website Комсомольская правда. Самара reports that the teens had ventured beyond the designated swimming area, where a steep drop-off begins. Three of them started to struggle in the water, with two being saved while Tigran could not be rescued in time. Eyewitnesses noted that it took a while before they realized the boys were calling for help, as it appeared they were merely playing in the water.

People on the beach attempted to reach Tigran, but the area was very deep, as sand had previously been extracted from that location, creating a steep depression. Tigran's classmates shared that he was an excellent swimmer and an athlete who rode a quad bike, and he would have turned 18 in August.
