Ashot Isakhanyan Demands $5 Million from Manvel Grigoryan for Destroying His Life
The case involving former Armenian MP and General Manvel Grigoryan saw a request submitted today at the Central Court of Yerevan from Ashot Isakhanyan, an inmate at the 'Sevan' penitentiary. Isakhanyan is the individual who previously claimed that Grigoryan had tortured him.
According to Armenia Today, Isakhanyan's letter states: “Honorable Court, I am a victim in the case against Manvel Grigoryan. He kept me in basements for 22 days, tortured me, and threatened me. I hereby declare that I have not received the indictment and do not know why I am not on the witness list. Dear Court, I request to be included as a person subject to summons as a victim. I request that you seize $5 million from Manvel Grigoryan as compensation for destroying my life,” Isakhanyan emphasized, attaching photographs to his letter.
Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan noted that the court will send a written response to the applicant regarding the absence of charges relevant to him. It should be noted that the indictment is sent to a person with a status of the accused in the case, while Isakhanyan does not have any status in this separated portion of the case.
Prosecutor Vahe Dolmazyan added that a report had been received concerning Isakhanyan in due time, and the criminal case initiated in that relation is currently at the investigative phase.
It is worth noting that freedom fighter Ashot Isakhanyan had previously declared that Manvel Grigoryan had kept him chained and tortured for around 22 days. Isakhanyan has a history of multiple convictions; in 2014, while serving a previous sentence, he was convicted of fraud, with an additional sentence imposed that resulted in a total of six years and six months of imprisonment.
