VIDEO: Man Who Threw Grenades at Ex-Wife and Her Husband Surrenders
As part of the "Search 2019" operational preventive measure, information was received at the Internal Security Division of the Police that a 60-year-old man, wanted for committing a particularly serious crime by the Masis police, was hiding in his deceased uncle's house in the village of Alapars in the Kotayk region. There was also information suggesting that the wanted man might be armed with a grenade and other weapons.
On June 7, under the leadership of Police Chief Valery Osipyan, officers from several police divisions, including the special forces division, went to Alapars. The operation lasted over 10 hours. Various options were discussed for safely apprehending and detaining the suspect. In the early hours of June 8, Valery Osipyan personally communicated with the fugitive. After a lengthy and effective explanatory phone conversation, the wanted man voluntarily emerged from his hiding place and was taken to the Charentsavan police department. He has been arrested.
Recall that on May 30, at 15:25, the Masis police received a report. An ambulance crew dispatched to the village of Noramarg in the Ararat region reported that there were injured persons in one of the houses on 19th Street. Rapidly responding police operational groups from the Ararat regional police and the Masis division determined on the scene that the individuals had sustained injuries as a result of an explosion. The 60-year-old homeowner, his 44-year-old wife, their 20-year-old daughter-in-law, and her 1-year-old son were transported to Yerevan's medical center.
Approximately three hours after the incident, the 60-year-old man died in the hospital.
Explosion, forensic, and cold weapon investigation experts from the police's forensic examination department were called to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Preliminary data indicated that the injured individuals had sustained injuries due to grenade explosions. As a result of operational and investigative measures, police officers established that the ex-husband of the 44-year-old woman had quarreled with his former wife and her present husband. During the confrontation, he threw two grenades at them and fled.
Within hours of the incident, the Masis police division and the territorial investigative body conducted a search at the residence of the man wanted for the crime. A polyethylene bag containing a powder-like substance, two grenades with detonators were discovered; one of the grenades had explosive material attached with transparent tape, while the other had not only explosive material but also bullets attached. The discovered items were confiscated and sent for examination.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
