A Fire Set at the Residence and Vehicle of a Mayoral Candidate's Campaign Chief in Abovyan
Today, June 8, an extraordinary incident occurred in the Kotayk region. At around 4:00 AM, the emergency services received a call reporting a car fire in the yard of building 28 in the 2nd micro-district of Abovyan city.
According to Shamshyan.com, a fire crew arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire that had started in a parked Nissan Tiida, license plate 35 OX 487.
Sources indicate that the vehicle belongs to 46-year-old Vahan Saribekyan, a resident of Abovyan and the head of the campaign staff for the mayoral candidate Grigor Gulyan from the ruling Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).
Before firefighters arrived, Saribekyan's son, 26-year-old Harutyun Saribekyan, attempted to extinguish the flames but sustained burns to his hands. He was subsequently transported to the Abovyan Medical Center by an ambulance that arrived at the scene.
The vehicle was completely rendered unusable, and reports suggest that the perpetrator or perpetrators poured gasoline on Saribekyan's front door and set it on fire. The blaze also spread inside the house, but thanks to Harutyun Saribekyan's efforts, the fire did not cause significant damage inside.
It is reported that when the front door was set ablaze, seven family members were inside, including a young child. It is worth noting that the governor of Kotayk, Romanos Petrosyan, also arrived at the scene.
