VIDEO: No Armenians Affected in Jerusalem Unrest
On June 2, clashes occurred between Jews and Arabs near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. According to Israeli media sources, hundreds of people threw chairs and stones at police in the Old City area of Jerusalem.
The local police were forced to implement special measures to prevent further escalation of the unrest.
HAI DZAYN news agency contacted Father Koryun Vardapet Baghdasaryan, the head of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem, to inquire whether any Armenians or citizens of the Republic of Armenia were harmed as a result of the incident.
Father Koryun indicated that the incident occurred far from the Armenian quarter and that no Armenians were harmed.
It should be noted that the previous day, Israelis were marking the 52nd anniversary of the unification of Jerusalem.
The status of the Temple Mount continues to be one of the sharp points in Palestinian-Israeli relations. It is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, built in the 7th-8th centuries. On May 31, 260,000 Muslims participated in the final prayers of Ramadan there.
