Attack on Armenian Woman in Istanbul

An Armenian woman, Arpine T., was attacked and stabbed by unknown individuals near the entrance of her home in the Armenian-populated Samatya neighborhood of Istanbul. Reports NEWS.am.

According to Istanbul's Armenian newspaper Agos, two masked individuals rang the doorbell of the Armenian family’s apartment in one of the residential buildings. When Arpine opened the door, the masked assailants attacked her, stabbed her, and quickly fled, saying that this was just the beginning.

Neighbors quickly rushed Arpine to the hospital, where doctors stated that her life was not in danger. Zakeos Ohanian, a clergy member of the Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate, reported that there had been threatening inscriptions on the wall of the Armenian couple's home, along with a drawn cross.

Archbishop Ateshyan had a phone conversation regarding the incident with the Istanbul police chief and the Fatih district police chief. During the conversation, Archbishop Ateshyan was assured that efforts would be made to find the perpetrators and that security measures would be heightened in Armenian-populated neighborhoods.

It is worth noting that years ago, there were attacks on elderly Armenian women in the same Samatya neighborhood. However, those responsible for the attacks were arrested—an individual of Armenian descent with mental health issues—while the actual organizers were never uncovered.
