Tensions Rise in Ujan as Around 19 Companies Hold Protests

As previously reported, subcontractor construction companies have closed the Ararat-Ujan section of the North-South highway corridor. These companies claim they have not been paid for their work for almost 10 months.

According to Shantnews, some villagers and police are urging protesters to reopen the road, but the citizens say they have suffered significant financial damages and are demanding compensation.

Representatives from around 19 companies are protesting, claiming they have not received wages since September. The government has noted dissatisfaction with their work.

One protest participant stated that they have reached out to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, as well as the Ministry of Transport, but have received no response.

“The total debt to all companies amounts to 2.5 billion drams, and all construction organizations have diligently performed their work. About 700 families have been left jobless. People were relying on this program, and no one has helped or is helping us,” said one of the protesters.

At the moment, part of the road has been reopened. The protesters are awaiting representatives from the government, with reports indicating that the Deputy Minister of Transport might arrive here.
