Mihran Poghosyan Granted Political Asylum in Russia
According to reliable information from Irakanum.am, the Russian authorities have granted the request of Mihran Poghosyan, the former head of the RA National Security Service and former MP, for political asylum in Russia. This means that Poghosyan, who is on the wanted list, will not be extradited to Armenian law enforcement.
It is worth noting that Poghosyan's lawyer, Mikhail Yamchitsky, stated that "Mihran Poghosyan is being pursued politically in his homeland."
Additionally, a Russian court accepted a request from the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation to detain Mihran Poghosyan for 40 days, in order to discuss the issue of extraditing him to the Republic of Armenia.
In Armenia, Mihran Poghosyan is accused under part 1 of Article 179 and part 2 of Article 308 of the Criminal Code. According to the indictment, he abused his official position to embezzle property on a particularly large scale, resulting in severe consequences.
Poghosyan was found and arrested on April 19 in Petrozavodsk.
