World-Famous Conductor Harry Konstantin Orbelian Sues Prime Minister and Culture Minister

World-renowned conductor Harry Konstantin Orbelian has filed a lawsuit against the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the acting Minister of Culture, Nazeni Gharibyan. This was reported by NEWS.am based on information from the court information system.

The conductor is seeking to annul the Prime Minister’s decision from January 14, 2019, which temporarily assigned the duties of the Minister of Culture to Nazeni Gharibyan, as well as Gharibyan's order from March 3, 2019, terminating Orbelian's authority.

The State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A. Spendiarian has also been involved in the case as a third party.

The case has been assigned to Administrative Court Judge Liana Hakobyan.

It is worth noting that according to the order of Nazeni Gharibyan, Orbelian was dismissed from the position of theater director because, according to the local self-government law, he could not simultaneously hold the positions of theater director and artistic director, and according to the “Language Law,” he was required to have proficiency in Armenian (Orbelian communicates in Russian).

Following this decision, Orbelian had announced his intention to appeal to the court.

World-renowned conductor Harry Konstantin Orbelian was appointed as the director of the State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Alexander Spendiarian on August 3, 2017, by the decree of then Minister of Culture Armen Amiryan.
