Military Salaries to Increase by an Average of 18%. Decision Approved

During today’s government session, Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan presented a draft decision clarifying the amounts of allowances established for special conditions of military service, their names, and the criteria for performing service under these conditions.

“Additionally, based on the directive from the Prime Minister, an allowance is planned for the achievement of official duties aimed at increasing the salaries of military personnel,” stated the Minister, adding that as a result, the monetary provision for military personnel will increase by an average of 10 percent.

“A leveling is being carried out regarding the allowances for the highest-ranking officers, junior enlisted, and privates, so that both the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and contract privates will receive similar increases. I ask you to approve this long-awaited draft decision,” said Tonoyan.

In this regard, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted, “We have announced that starting in July, the salary will increase by 10 percent, but with this regulation, we are addressing the issue such that junior personnel and those serving under special conditions will see a salary or monetary provision level that is much higher than what has been declared. We said the salary would increase by 10 percent, but for junior personnel and those serving in special conditions, it will increase by up to 20 percent.”

David Tonoyan also mentioned that for junior enlisted and privates, the average increase will be 18 percent, but those military personnel serving in special conditions will receive additional allowances, meaning they will see even greater increases.

“We are very grateful for this initiative, and it is unprecedented in terms of simultaneous percentage increases,” said David Tonoyan.

“We thank the Armenian Armed Forces, our soldiers, and our officers for their service to the homeland and for defending the security of our country,” stated Nikol Pashinyan.
