VIDEO: Around 50 Million Drams Embezzlement Case in Verin Getashen, Criminal Case Initiated Against Community Leader

Based on operational information received from the National Security Service of Armenia, officers from the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Police, in collaboration with the regional department of Gegharkunik and the criminal investigators of Martuni, have documented a new case of embezzlement or misappropriation of particularly large sums.

As a result of extensive operational-search measures, law enforcement has determined that the former head of Verin Getashen community in Gegharkunik region, allegedly abusing his official position, organized the dismantling of a 25 km long drinking water pipeline valued at approximately 50 million drams from one of the community’s assets, and embezzled the metal pipes obtained from this operation. Part of these pipes was sold to a company owned by his brother, which subsequently used them for the construction of the lighting network in Verin Getashen community.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the embezzlement or misappropriation. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
