VIDEO: 8 Current and 3 Former Footballers Arrested in Georgia
The employees of the anti-corruption agency of the State Security Service of Georgia have arrested 8 current and 3 former footballers as a result of operational-search and investigative actions for bribing participants in sports games and match-fixing by players competing in the top league.
The investigation has revealed that members of the organized group were in touch with athletes from football clubs and entered into agreements with the opposing team for a predetermined score in exchange for a certain sum of money.
To ensure that the specified matches ended with the predetermined scores, the members of the organized criminal group and the footballers received a total of 93,500 lari,” the State Security Service reported.
The investigation is being conducted by the anti-corruption agency of the State Security Service.
