VIDEO: Jewelry Worth 98 Million Drams Stolen, Police Investigation Uncovered

On the night of May 5, an individual reported to the police that their car door had been opened and gold and diamond jewelry worth over $200,000 was stolen from the interior.

The Armenian police announced that a criminal case has been initiated on suspicion of theft. The car owner is engaged in the buying and selling of gold. On that day, he had taken jewelry from his gold shop to carry home and had visited various places throughout the day. Upon returning home, he noticed that the bags containing the gold and diamond jewelry left in his car were missing.

Following the alert, it was first determined that the incident had occurred in front of a medical facility in the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district. Investigators from the Malatia police department began looking into the case, meticulously examining even seemingly minor details related to the incident.

The police noted that the victim was selling the car, and various individuals had recently come to look at it.

As the car door had been opened with a master key, it was hypothesized that one of the apparent buyers might have duplicated the key. Investigative measures focused on verifying this hypothesis.

Soon it became known that days before the theft, one of the victim's colleagues had come with a friend to see the car. During that time, this alleged buyer had even driven the car, making it possible that this person had somehow molded the car key with a type of modeling clay to later create a similar key and steal from the car.

In a short time, the identity of this person was revealed. The movements prior to the incident were also established. On May 4, the victim had taken bags of jewelry from his shop and drove to his workshop located on Khorenatsi Street in the capital. A few days earlier, the person who came to see the car had followed him both by car and on foot, waiting on Khorenatsi Street. When the victim exited the workshop and rushed to visit a parent at the medical facility, the person waiting on the street continued to follow him.

Upon reaching the location, the victim parked the car in the medical facility’s parking lot and entered the hospital. Minutes later, the man who had been following him approached the vehicle, opened the car door with the duplicate key, took the bags of jewelry, and fled on foot. After uncovering all this, the initial hypothesis was substantiated. Operational data indicated that Arman Sahakyan, who committed the theft, did not act alone, as his accomplice was also Tigran Gasparyan, a colleague of the victim, who had been present in the vehicle.

On May 11, the 34-year-old Sahakyan and 35-year-old Gasparyan were located and taken in for questioning by police from different areas of the capital. They were presented to the investigator of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative investigative division and were arrested.

Subsequent measures by law enforcement led to the recovery of the stolen items. The bags containing the gold and diamond jewelry were hidden in the cemetery of Arman Sahakyan’s grandfather. The jewelry has been seized for further procedures.

Residents of Yerevan, Arman Sahakyan and Tigran Gasparyan, have been charged. By court order, they have been detained and transferred to the “Nubarashen” penitentiary. Investigative actions and measures are ongoing, and an investigation is being conducted.
