Two Crossings on Mashtots Avenue Sold, Says Hayk Marutyan

“In the first days when I came and started working, one of my first instructions was for all crossings in Yerevan to be illuminated,” said Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan during a briefing with reporters today, addressing the issue of two underground crossings on Mashtots Avenue that are in quite poor condition and lack lighting.

“We have illuminated all crossings in Yerevan, and I personally went to check them; they were all lit, but a week later, those lights were either broken or stolen. I want to emphasize that the city hall and the police are unable to monitor all crossings to ensure that our residents do not break or steal them,” noted Marutyan.

According to the mayor, there are issues that prevent the improvement of the mentioned two crossings because they have been sold. “Since these two crossings are sold and have an owner who violated the contract, we have demanded that the owner commence the work. We will do everything to ensure that they work as quickly as possible, otherwise they will be subjected to fines and penalties,” he stated.

Another issue related to these crossings is that they need to be closed for complete renovation, which in turn will cause new inconveniences for residents.

Regarding other crossings, where various violations have led people to set up their businesses, the mayor said, “On one hand, the public demands that we clean these areas; on the other hand, they require us not to interfere because these are places of employment.”
