Attempted Murder Staged by Surik Khachatryan: Tigran Karapetyan Addresses the Prosecutor General
During a recent trial regarding the attempted murder of the former governor of Syunik, the accused stated that no assassination attempt had occurred and that the entire incident had been staged in collaboration with the former governor. “What actions are being taken, since this involves a former high-ranking official of Armenia?” asked Tigran Karapetyan, a member of the ‘My Step’ parliamentary faction, addressing Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan during today’s session of the National Assembly.
Arthur Davtyan responded that the case is under their scrutiny. “Currently, proceedings are being initiated to verify the circumstances. This is a very important detail,” he stated.
It is worth recalling that the alleged incident occurred on May 20, 2015. Unknown individuals fired shots at the car of Surik Khachatryan, the former governor of Syunik, on the Kapan-Goris highway. None of the three individuals inside the vehicle—Liska, his driver, and assistant—were harmed.
Even at that time, there were reports in the media suggesting that what happened was not an assassination attempt, but rather a staged event.
