Video: Our Patient is Dying, New Ambulance Arrives. Why Did the Residents of Aragatsavan Block the Road?
Residents of the consolidated community of Aragatsavan in the Aragatsotn Province, along with their village mayor, blocked the central Yerevan-Gyumri road this morning, May 8.
Valer Sahakyan, a resident of the community, informed NEWS.am that after some time, they opened the road on the condition that employees of the Water Committee meet with them on May 10.
“Irrigation water has become 57,000 drams per hectare; we want it to be 10-12,000 drams. We demand that the governor, Davit Gevorgyan, come here and hear our problems. I need to irrigate my vineyards five times in one season; can you imagine paying 57,000 drams per hectare? It turns out I should not cultivate my vineyards,” said the resident.
He also noted that there is an issue with the ambulance service in the community. “Our patient is dying, and only now does the ambulance arrive in the village. Recently, my neighbor fell ill; we called for an ambulance, and by the time it arrived, it was too late—he died. The ambulance arrived two hours later. We want an ambulance to be stationed in our village,” the resident expressed.
Garnik Atanesyan, the Deputy Governor of Aragatsotn, told NEWS.am that the residents of Aragatsavan should clarify their relationship with the Water Committee regarding the irrigation tariff.
Regarding the ambulance issue, he stated that this was the first time he was hearing about such an incident. “It is very strange that this happened and we were not aware of it. If this is true, then the governor's office will do everything possible to resolve the issue. The community has an outpatient clinic that is under the jurisdiction of the local self-government,” said Garnik Atanesyan.
