Video: How the Parking Issue of Rental Cars in 'Red Lines' Will Be Regulated
In the paid parking areas of Yerevan's Baghramyan Avenue and other locations, one can observe long columns of rental cars occupying parking spaces around the clock, hindering the parking of other vehicles, reports Tert.am.
Rental cars can also be seen in paid parking areas on Komitas Avenue, various sections of Abovyan Street, and even around Republic Square.
Tert.am submitted a written inquiry to the Yerevan municipality, questioning why the vehicles of rental companies occupy parking spaces around the clock and whether any company has the right to permanently occupy areas belonging to the community.
In response, the municipality stated:
“In the allowed roadway sections and functioning paid parking areas (red lines), we inform regarding the parking of vehicles labeled ‘rented’ and others, that there is no legal norm within the existing legal acts that could prohibit or restrict the parking of vehicles that comply with traffic regulations and have made the appropriate payments for parking, therefore, there is no basis for granting or denying permission by the municipality.”
The municipality also announced that they are currently discussing with the police the possibility of creating legal grounds to take necessary measures against parked vehicles labeled ‘rented’ and others. However, both the municipality and the police declined to provide additional details on what specific project this pertains to.
